US-4 Southeast

Yokoso Atlanta!  Welcome to the southern capital brimming with dogwoods, southern delicacies, and a vibrant ex-pat Japanese community.  The Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association Southeast (JETAASE) represents Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  The chapter is fairly robust in the Atlanta metro area with about 100 alumni, and a few dozen in both North Carolina and South Carolina.  The Carolinas have burgeoning sub-chapters, which are fueled by genki spirit, but challenged by geography.

In addition to the JET alumni community, there is a lively community of Japanese residents.  The Japan America Society of Georgia has a Young Professionals group that is eager to partner with JETAASE on events.  JETAASE has also partnered with the World Affairs Council’s Young Leaders and with the Atlanta Area Returned Peace Corps Volunteers.  Events range from dinners at local Japanese restaurants to nights out at the Atlanta Braves to home cooking classes.
