Reception information

Thursday, 10/25 “Off the Grid” Reception (Dress is casual)

You are encouraged to attend the JETAANC-sponsored reception at Off the Grid, an outdoor market of food trucks, in the Upper Haight location to get to know your fellow delegates.  If you want to attend this reception, it is suggested to arrive into San Francisco International Airport (SFO) by no later than 3:00pm on 10/25.  This will allow you to board BART from SFO in time to arrive at the King George hotel, receive your Conference Registration packet at the hotel entrance, check in to your room, and meet your peers in the hotel lobby around 5:00pm.  We will travel in a group via public transit to Off the Grid in Upper Haight.  Exact time TBD.  I will send a link for you to RSVP for this reception once the program details have been finalized.  Until then, you should bring ID, cash and your atm/credit card to this reception for two reasons: 1) Off the Grid is an informal congregation of gourmet food trucks and everyone’s dinner and drinks will be on your own; and 2) Since we are taking SF MUNI together to the reception, we will most likely help you purchase a ticket at the Muni station.  It will most likely be more convenient to pay with cash at the food trucks.  You can use cash or a card for your Muni tickets.

Fun fact about Off the Grid: it was started by JET Alum Matthew Cohen (Saga ’02-’05).  You will have an opportunity to meet Matt when he makes a presentation at the conference if you do not meet him at the reception.

Friday, 10/26 — Sunday, 10/28 Conference (Dress is Business Casual)

Workshops will run from approximately 8:00am–5:00pm Friday and Saturday, 8-12:00pm on Sunday.  Please arrange your travel to leave San Francisco accordingly.

Friday, 10/26 MOFA Reception at SF Consulate General Hiroshi Inomata’s Residence (Dress is business casual)

There will be a chartered bus to take Conference Delegates from the Conference at 50 Fremont Street to the Consulate General’s residence in the SF Pacific Heights District.  The bus will either drop off people at the Nijikai or back to the King George Hotel.  Bus details TBD, however you should know that there will be an optional Nijikai after this reception (location TBD).

A few things to note about the MOFA Reception: 1) MOFA SF combined their annual SF JETs Welcome Back Reception for newly-returned JETs whom completed the JET Program in 2012 with the JETAAUSA National Conference Reception.  This means the reception will serve multiple functions, and will have a larger attendance than usual.  For example, there will be local employers at the reception to identify themselves for the newly returned JETs for hiring purposes.  In addition, there should be a handful of JTE’s whom are studying how to teach English as a Second Language at UC Davis at the reception.  You may remember this “Reverse JET” program being announced last year by Ambassador Fujisaki as a suggestion for how JETs can be more involved with MOFA programming.  This is the second round of “Reverse JETs” to come to UC Davis and we are excited they will also attend the reception.

Saturday, 10/27 CLAIR Reception @ TBD (Dress is Business Casual)

The details are still being arranged for this reception.  You will receive the pertinent details as the conference draws closer.  Note that there will also be a Nijikai (location also TBD).
