JET alum Roy Moneyhun (Mie-ken 1996-1998) of Florida is planning a one-man project called Tohoku Forward to bike across the US to raise funds for Tohoku relief from Japan’s 311 earthquake/tsunami. Tohoku Forward’s motto is “Helping Today’s Children Build a Happy Tomorrow”. The mission is to raise awareness and support for Tohoku orphans, many of whom are babies and will need support for another 15-18 years.
Roy will bike approximiately 5,000 miles from Jacksonville Beach, Florida to the West coast of the US, then fly or sail to Tokyo before continuing to bike on to Kyoto. His planned departure is May 11, 2014.
Roy is currently training and building donor support and is hoping that JETAA USA can share information about the Tohoku Forward project, how to donate, and offer support as we follow him on his journey.
Living Dreams, a non-profit organization in Tokyo supporting orphans living in children’s homes, will be the processing agency and financial manager for funds raised through Tohoku Forward. Living Dreams will very soon start accepting donations for Tohoku Forward. In addition, you may contact Roy if you are interested in hosting him or providing him a place to rest, like a Tatami Timeshare.
