JET-MIP was created in 2011 to honor two beloved American English teachers, Taylor Anderson (Ishinomaki, Miyagi-ken) and Monty Dickson (Rikuzentakata, Iwate-ken) who lost their lives during the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan. The Program, which provides 32 high school students the opportunity to visit Japan and learn about Japanese language and culture, is continuing for 2012 . Our hope is that this opportunity will motivate American youth to eventually participate in programs such as the JET Program to enhance relationships between Japan and the United States and build bridges of friendship for our future generations.
Selected students will participate in an educational visit throughout Japan including Miyagi or Iwate from July 8th-26, 2012. The trip length is 18 nights and 19 days, including pre-visit orientation and post visit wrap up in Los Angeles. A total of 14 nights and 15 days are in Japan.
There are some new requirements for the registration process this year including the National Japanese Exam which has a registration deadline of January 31st, 2012. For further eligibility information and application details, please visit the Japan Foundation website.
